YOUNGSTOWN – Would you like to get the first glimpse of hundreds of books for sale in every genre, as well as DVDs and CDs?
Friends of Youngstown Free Library is inviting current and prospective members to Members’ Night from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, kicking off its annual Spring Book Sale through Saturday. The event will be held in the Youngstown Village Center Gym, 240 Lockport St.
The sale is open to the public from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. A “bag sale” is scheduled at 1 p.m. Saturday, when patrons will be able to fill a staff-provided shopping bag for $3. In addition, current and prospective Friends members will be entered into a drawing to win one of 10 $20 gift certificates to Youngstown businesses, with the drawing planned for Thursday evening.
The book sale is organized by Friends directors Faith Koch and Philip Miller and involves the support of dozens of volunteers who unpack, sort and organize materials. Available books cover all genres, including fiction, nonfiction, children’s and adolescent, travel, cooking, gardening, self-help, spiritual, literature and New York Times best-sellers. DVDs and CDs also are available. Items cost from 25 cents to $3, with proceeds benefiting Youngstown Free Library.
Donations of used books or materials may be dropped off at the gym prior to the sale on Wednesday or Thursday.
The Friends, with a membership of about 300, is run by a volunteer board of directors.
The group meets at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month at the library. New members are welcome.
