A standout goalkeeping performance by Sabrina D’Angelo went for naught Saturday night as the Western New York Flash lost to the Chicago Red Stars, 1-0, at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill. in their National Women’s Soccer League match.
Casey Short scored in the 28th minute for Chicago and the goal stood, leaving the Flash at 1-1 for the season. Chicago also is 1-1.
D’Angelo made several spectacular stops including a point-blank save against Chicago captain Christen Press in the 84th minute to keep it a one-goal game.
The Flash will open the home season at 7 p.m. on Friday against the Washington Spirit at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester.
