EJ Tackett of Huntington, Ind., converted the 7-9 split then struck three times, and that was the difference in a 217-210 win over Ryan Ciminelli in the championship match of the PBA Xtra Frame Storm Open on Sunday at Liberty Lanes in Carpentersville, Ill.
The victory was worth $10,000 and points toward the $10,000 bonus that will go to the overall winner of the 10 tournament Xtra Frame series. Second place was worth $5,000 for Ciminelli, who finished the match with four strikes, forcing Tackett to mark in his 10th frame.
Ciminelli finished qualifying on Saturday in second place with 1,984 pins (248 average). Then the 30-year-old left-hander from Cheektowaga, gained the No. 1 position for the stepladder finals by going 7-5 in match play for 5,256 total pins. Tackett (9-3, 5,192) was second.
Steve Taylor defeated Sean Rash, 237-209 and Patrick Allen, 246-212 before losing to Tackett, 205-200 in stepladder matches leading to the final.
