Personnel at the Tonawanda Police station Department briefly thought they were under minor attack Saturday when they heard a loud crash and the sound of breaking glass.
Capt. Fred Foels said the first thought was that a disgruntled “customer” may have tossed a brick or rock at a window, but a quick investigation revealed that a turkey had flown full force into the glass.
The bird remained on the scene, appearing rather dazed, the captain said, but there will be no turkey dinner at the station this weekend. When an officer went out to see how the fowl was fairing, Foels said, “all of a sudden the thing gets up and flies over the Niagara River.” He did not say if there were any plans to extradite the bird from Grand Island.
