The three-way University at Buffalo quarterbacking battle had a three-way photo finish in the annual Blue and White Scrimmage Saturday at UB Stadium.
Senior Grant Rohach, red-shirt freshman Tyree Jackson and red-shirt sophomore Chris Merchant all moved the offense reasonably well in the two-hour practice before several hundred fans.
Rohach: 13 of 17 for 117 yards and four TDs. He got 37 snaps.
Merchant: 7 of 10 for 132 yards and one TD. He got 28 snaps.
Jackson: 6 of 9 for 53 yards and two TDs. He got 22 snaps.
UB coach Lance Leipold cautioned fans not to draw any conclusions into the snap counts or the fact Jackson took the first snaps with the starters.
Said Leipold: "For the most part I was very pleased. I think Chris Merchant got a lot of long drives and did some things. Grant Rohach you can continue to see that he’s played FBS football, how he handles himself, how he manages the huddle. The athleticism and the raw ability of Tyree Jackson I think continues to show itself. He just has such a bright future."
