The March of Dimes is adding a 5K Run for Babies this year to its annual March for Babies, both to be held May 1 at Canalside. The fundraiser walk – the nation’s oldest – raises money to assure “A Fighting Chance for Every Baby.”
The certified 5K begins at 10 a.m. behind First Niagara Center, passes through Erie Basin Marina and concludes in the Canalside park. Visit runforbabies.org/buffalo to register for $30, or register the day-of beginning at 8:30 a.m. for $35 (less for under-12s).
Registration for the March is free but fundraising is encouraged. Sign up is at marchforbabies.org/events/buffalo or at 8:30 a.m. day-of. The two-mile walk begins at 11 a.m.
Chairman of this year’s event is Fred Saia, retired president of Oneida Concrete, who contracted polio as a child and had his treatment supported through the March of Dimes. Funds raised this year support prenatal wellness programs, research and family support programs, among other efforts.
