Remembering when Prince's 'Purple Rain' flooded the Aud

The shocking news on Thursday that Prince had died in his home outside of Minneapolis had his fans scrolling through their memories for favorite songs, videos and live performances.

Buffalo News Pop Music Critic Jeff Miers called Prince a "genius" and said "his gifts were prodigious and vast."

For Buffalo fans, both their introduction and the high-water mark may have been his 1984 show at Memorial Auditorium while he was touring in support of the album - and the film - "Purple Rain."

Buffalo News Staff Reporter Carl Allen was there to review the show and Dan Herbeck wrote of how police were there to make sure there was no "public lewdness." There wasn't, but Detective John Dugan said he found some of it personally objectionable, adding: " .. but maybe I'm old-fashioned."
