Family Court Judge Lisa Bloch Rodwin was honored Friday by the FBI for her work with immigrant families.
Adam S. Cohen, special agent in charge of the FBI in Buffalo, presented Rodwin with the agency’s Community Leadership Award, an annual celebration of individuals who make a significant difference in their community.
Rodwin, one of 56 people celebrated nationwide, was honored for her work with the Western New York Muslim and Immigrant Community/Family Court Collaborative. The group was formed with an eye toward addressing cultural differences that often result in people being charged with domestic violence and child abuse crimes
Cohen said Rodwin recognized that cultural barriers were making it difficult for refugee and immigrant families to navigate and understand what was happening in her courtroom, and took steps to remedy the problem.
