The Church brings 'The Blurred Crusade' to the Tralf

In 1981, when the Church unveiled “The Blurred Crusade” on its already adoring Australian public, the record was deemed by the powers that be “unworthy” of a U.S. release.

Today, 35 years later, most of the world knows that “The Blurred Crusade” is a seminal work of alternative psychedelia, an album that helped pave the way for the gauzy and spacious guitar-based alt-rock of the 1980s. And the Church has taken to the road, playing the album in its entirety across North America.

“The Blurred Crusade” still sounds ahead of its time, and stands smartly beside the Church’s most recent release, the epic “Further Deeper,” songs from which will help flesh out the set list when the band performs at 8 p.m. April 23 in the Tralf Music Hall (622 Main St.). Tickets are $23 (box office, Ticketmaster).

The band will be performing in the “An Evening With” format, so there won’t be an opening act. Set the controls for the heart of the sun, and see you there.
