Falls to be illuminated in purple, inadvertently honoring Prince

When Niagara Falls turns purple tonight at 10 p.m., you could be forgiven for thinking it was in tribute to pop music icon Prince, who died today at 57, as some social media chatter suggests.

The 15-minute illumination is in fact in honor of Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday, as we reported earlier this month. Read more about it in a release from Niagara Parks.

But if you want to see it as a tribute to the late, great songwriter and performer best known for "Purple Rain," I'm sure the falls won't mind.
