LOCKPORT – Traffic may be slowed for the next four months or so in the heart of downtown Lockport, as the state Department of Transportation begins repairs this week on the Big Bridge, the Main Street span that crosses the Erie Canal in front of City Hall.
City Engineer Rolando Moreno said traffic will continue to move in both directions, but there may be occasional stoppages and restrictions on parking, both along the curbs and in adjacent parking lots, as the repair crews move from one part of the bridge to another.
“It’s going to be intensive labor until August or September,” he said. The DOT wants to repair bridge joints, steel plates and concrete on the bridge. Most of the work will be on the surface, not under the bridge, Moreno said.
