SANBORN – Anti-drug initiatives in Niagara County will be the topic at a public gathering of a county Substance Abuse Awareness Panel, to be held in the Arts and Media Auditorium at Niagara County Community College at 6 p.m. April 27.
State Sen. Robert G. Ortt, R-North Tonawanda, will provide opening comments. The panel will be moderated by NCCC Professor Tim Veiders, coordinator of criminal justice and economic crime investigation programs.
Speakers from county government will include Acting District Attorney Theodore A. Brenner; Probation Director John Cicchitti; Mental Health Director Laura J. Kelemen; and Legislator David E. Godfrey, R-Wilson.
From law enforcement, speakers will include Niagara Falls Police Chief E. Bryan DalPorto; Niagara Falls Chief City Court Judge Mark A. Violante; Capt. Scott Lombardo, chief of the Niagara County Drug Task Force; and Chief Deputy Steven C. Preisch of the county Sheriff’s Office.
From the drug rehabilitation sphere, participants will include Nick Gazzoli, director of Horizon Village; Marlon Thornton, FirstStep/NorthPointe Council; and Dr. Mark Bonacci of NCCC’s chemical dependency counseling certificate program.
Parking is available in Lot 1. This presentation is being offered as a service learning project created by students in the substance abuse interventions course at NCCC.
