The American Red Cross, Western and Central New York Region, will hold its 2016 Giving Day next Thursday to support its efforts in helping families affected by fires and other disasters.
In Western and Central New York, the Red Cross responds annually to more than 1,400 disasters, primarily fires in which families have lost their homes. Red Cross officials note that it costs $88.50 to support a family of three with food, blankets and other essentials in the first day following a disaster.
Donations can be made online by visiting redcross.org/givingday. A $10 donation to the Red Cross can be made by texting REDCROSS to 90999. All donations will be processed on Thursday.
