Jamaican man admits assaulting officer in federal detention center

A man accused of assaulting an officer at the Federal Detention Center in Batavia has admitted his guilt.

Seymour Ellis, 43, most recently of Queens, will face up to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to assault of a federal officer before Chief U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci.

Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian J. Counihan said the incident occurred while the defendant was awaiting removal to Jamaica and after he had lost his permanent resident status because of drug, robbery and theft convictions.
