State Supreme Court Justice Christopher J. Burns and Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III have been named the new supervising judges of criminal courts in Western New York.

The announcement was made Wednesday by Justice Paula L. Feroleto, administrative judge of the Eighth Judicial District, which covers all eight counties of Western New York. Murphy will be the supervising judge for Niagara and Orleans counties, and Burns will oversee the other six counties.

Burns is in his 21st year as a State Supreme Court justice, a position he won after serving 12 years as a town justice in the Town of Tonawanda.

Murphy is in his ninth year as a county judge after having served 16 years as Niagara County district attorney and 10 years as an assistant U.S. attorney.
