7th Street Gang member sent to prison for role in shootings

A West Side street gang member linked to several shootings was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara to 17½ years in prison.

Luis Medina, a member of the 7th Street Gang, had previously admitted taking part in the shootings as part of a bloody rivalry with the nearby 10th Street Gang.

Medina, 24, was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph M. Tripi and, as part of his plea deal, also admitted selling drugs while in the gang.

He pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy and is the latest 7th Street Gang member to go to prison.
