Lockport Public Library budget approved

LOCKPORT – Lockport voters approved the 2016-17 budget for the Lockport Public Library on Tuesday by a vote of 205-42.

The $1.72 million spending plan includes a property tax levy increase of 0.89 percent, which will be collected on Lockport school tax bills to be mailed in September.

Spending is rising 4.5 percent, largely because the library’s auditor successfully sought inclusion of a $30,000 contingency account, which the library has never had before, according to director Beverly J. Federspiel.

“The library has done everything possible to be a good steward of the taxpayers’ money, and we are very thankful for their support,” Federspiel said in an email.
