Pedestrians and drivers making their way north along Elmwood Avenue at Breckenridge Street have a new art project to admire -- or dismiss, as their politics might dictate. It's an enormous head-and-shoulders photograph of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders raising his finger in an authoritative stance.
The photograph, which has already spawned a series of selfies, was wheat-pasted on the side of the frozen yogurt shop Yotality, at 715 Elmwood Ave. A spray-painted message beside the photograph reads "April 19," alluding to the date of the New York State Republican and Democratic primaries.
The work, posted on the Buffalo for Bernie Sanders Facebook page, seems to bear the hallmarks of muralist and photographer Max Collins, but he said he was not responsible for it. No other artist has come forward to claim it. As of its posting on April 10, the photo has received nearly 1,000 likes and been shared 432 times.
