Wine lovers have two consecutive weekends to explore tasty cuisine samples paired with Niagara Wine Trail USA offerings during the Taste of the Trail event, Saturday and next Sunday and April 23-24.
Tickets include a tasting of three wines and one sample of cuisine at 11 participating wineries each weekend, and a commemorative wine glass from your first winery. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are available for just one weekend or both.
Participating wineries Saturday and next Sunday and their offerings include: A Gust of Sun Winery, Ransomville – pulled pork tacos with pickled slaw and wine of your choice; Blackbird Cider Works, Barker – barbecue and mac and cheese and cider; Black Willow Winery, Burt – black cherry balsamic goat cheese mousse on endive, with choice of four wines; Chateau Niagara Winery, Newfane – beef bruschetta with Pinot Noir; and Honeymoon Trail Winery, Lockport – tortellini with Riesling.
Also participating Saturday and next Sunday are: Long Cliff Winery and Vineyards, Sanborn – Swedish meatballs and 2012 Lemberger; Midnight Run Wine Cellars, Ransomville – sweet barbecued pulled pork with Diamond; Niagara Landing Wine Cellars, Lockport – lobster bisque, mini maple ham sliders, desserts; The Winery at Marjim Manor, Appleton – warm fruit compote made with Cherry Concerto wine; Schulze Vineyards and Winery, Burt – sausage and German potato salad on a skewer with Siegfried Reserve, Riesling and Thirty Mile Point Niagara; and Victorianbourg Wine Estate, Wilson – chorizo and eggplant torta with Seyvonnay, Chardonnay and Seyval Cuve.
Wineries participating April 23-24 include: 810 Meadworks, Medina – cocktail made with the “Royal Squeeze”; A Gust of Sun, Spencerport – tortellini and white sauce with Three and Westies White wines; Arrowhead Spring Vineyards, Lockport – Terroir Red with D’Avolio’s olive oils; Eveningside Vineyards, Cambria; Flight of Five Winery, Lockport – mini Italian beef sandwiches with Canawler Red; and Freedom Run Winery, Lockport – ceviche cocktail appetizer with Freedom Blue.
Also featured April 23-24, are: Lake Ontario Winery, Hilton – Vignoles and semi-dry cider with apple/pear Gorgonzola pizza; Leonard Oakes Estate Winery, Medina; Salamanca Winery, Albion; Spring Lake Winery, Lockport – mini taco and wines; and Vizcarra Vineyards, Gasport – lomo saltado empanada (a Peruvian dish) with Paso Fino wine.
Advance ticket sales end at 9 p.m. Thursday for the first weekend and at 9 p.m. April 21 for the second weekend. Single weekend is $25 per person in advance and $30 at the door. Tickets for both weekends are $40 per person in advance and $45 at the door.
