Amherst pedestrian ‘serious’ after being hit while crossing Niagara Falls Boulevard

A 42-year-old Amherst woman is in serious condition after being hit by a vehicle while crossing Niagara Falls Boulevard shortly after midnight Sunday, town police said.

Julie G. Galatioto was walking from east to west against the traffic light near Tonawanda Creek Road around 12:25 a.m. when she was struck by a 2011 Ford traveling southbound on the boulevard, police said. Galatioto was crossing south of the intersection and was not in the crosswalk at the time, police said. She was transported to Erie County Medical Center where she was in the Intensive Care Unit.

The driver of the Ford was identified as Muhammad K. Sheikh, 34, of Lackawanna.

The investigation continues. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to call Amherst police at 689-1311.
