SUCHOWIECKI, Stella B. (Surowka)

SUCHOWIECKI - Stella B. (nee Surowka) Of Boston, NY, passed away quietly in her home on Easter Sunday, March, 27, 2016, surrounded by loving family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Walter, less than a month ago. Loving mother of John, Diane Hage, Patricia (Al) Christian, Mary (Mark Macina), Thomas and the late Michael Suchowiecki; cherished grandmother to nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; predeceased by brothers and sisters; also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 30th at 12 Noon at the Chapel in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 1411 Delaware Ave., Buffalo, NY 14209. Inurnment will immediately follow the service in the Rosewood Mausoleum. There is no prior visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Buffalo. Stella was a woman ahead of her time. While she maintained the traditional values of home and family, she pursued higher education when it wasn't common for women to do so. She was extremely proud to be the first female "Math Champion" at her high school. As her childhood sweetheart was fighting in the infantry on the European front during WWII, she obtained her Registered Nursing degree from the Corps. Walter and Stella married soon after the war ended. She worked nights in a large city hospital in the Bronx while her husband went to school. Throughout her life she continued to minister to others in hospital wards, nursing homes, or wherever a neighborhood friend was in need. But her most important nursing role was caring for Walter in times of his failing health. The family credits her for "keeping Dad" alive through many trials. Stella was independent. She was a critical thinker who paid close attention to not just her family and neighborhood, but the nation and the world. Everyone was welcome at her kitchen table. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion, family, enduring friendships, service to others and most of all the love she shared with Walter for over 80 years. She was beyond kind, beyond caring, and beyond a beautiful human being. Arrangements by JOHN J. KACZOR FUNERAL HOME, INC. Please share condolences at
