Billies win close one
Williamsville South and Sweet Home played a close defensive game in Class B action of boys lacrosse on Friday. The Billies raised their record to 2-2, 2-1 in the division, with a 6-4 win. Alex Schuler led the way for Williamsville South with two goals.
Elsewhere, powerful Hamburg rolled to an 19-2 win over Amherst. Evan Hollfedler and Brendan Ryan had three goals each for the Bulldogs.
In girls lacrosse, Frontier topped Nichols, 8-6, in a nonleague matchup. Lexi Rockey scored four goals for the Falcons. McKenna Rushford had six goals in Amherst’s 13-2 win over Iroquois. In the MMA, Mount Mercy stopped Nardin, 12-1.
Three off to NCCC
Three area wrestlers signed NJCAA National Letters of Intent on Friday to attend Niagara County Community College.
They were Fred Eckles of Lake Shore, Dakota Gardner of Fredonia, and Troy Keller of North Tonawanda. All three wrestlers finished second in the recent New York State Championships.
Eckles, who wrestled at 132, won two Section VI large school titles in his career. He finished with 203 wins.
Gardner (152) won a pair of Section VI small school championships and took part in five state competitions. His 267 wins are second-best in Section VI history. Keller (145) was selected as the top wrestler at the Section VI championships after his win.
