ART COMPETITION RECEPTION: Rep. Chris Collins, R-Clarence, will host the 2016 Congressional Art Competition reception and awards ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Roz Steiner Art Gallery at Genesee Community College, 1 College Road, Batavia. This year’s winner will receive a round-trip flight to Washington, D.C., to see their artwork in the U.S. Capitol, where it will be displayed for a year.

MEDICINAL GARDEN: The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens in South Park will host the second Medicinal Garden from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in support of World Health Week. PRISONERS OF WAR CEREMONY: A ceremony to honor former prisoners of war on National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Freedom Hall, Room 301, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 3495 Bailey Ave. April 9 is recognized nationally as the date when American and Filipino forces surrendered in 1942 in the Pacific Theater.
