The John R. Oishei Foundation has awarded a $40,000 grant to the Eden North Collins Food Pantry.
The money will be used toward the construction of the pantry’s new building in North Collins.
The pantry expects to start construction soon on the 4,300 square-foot building at 2059 Franklin St. in the Village of North Collins. Land for the new building was donated by Jim Smith, CEO of American Wire Tie in North Collins. The building is expected to cost $400,000, and is expected to be finished in the fall.
The food pantry has been distributing food twice a month from Holy Spirit Catholic Church in North Collins, where volunteers must set up food items for each distribution. The new building will allow the pantry to be set up full time, and to distribute food once a week. The pantry also will be used as an emergency food distribution site.
The Eden North Collins Food Pantry works under the guidance and rules of the Food Bank of Western New York, and serves the communities of Eden, North Collins, Collins, Collins Center and Lawtons.
