Niagara University outfielder Tanner Kirwer, a sophomore from Sherwood Park, Alberta, was named National Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association after he batted .714 in the Purple Eagles’ three-game sweep of Saint Peter’s in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference last weekend. Niagara outscored the Peacocks, 45-2, in the three games.
Kirwer went 10 for 14 with seven runs and 12 runs batted-in. He also was successful in three of four stolen base attempts. He had a .750 on-base percentage, 1.286 slugging percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage. After 26 games, Kirwer is batting .510 for Niagara.
He also was named MAAC Player of the Week and College Sports Madness Baseball Player of the Week.
