Sweet Home lax wins close one
Sweet Home (2-1) edged West Seneca East, 12-11, on a goal by junior Nate Faller with 18 seconds left. West Seneca East had tied the game with about a minute to play on a tally by Ryan Krzykowski.
“We had a three-goal lead and made a couple of mistakes and they tied it up.” said Sweet Home coach John Faller. “We have to learn how to handle things.”
Senior Jon Phillips had four goals and three assists for Sweet Home while Nate Faller, the coach’s grandson, had three goals and a pair of assists.
Busy week for Canisius lacrosse
Playing the second of three games in three days, Canisius lacrosse (2-3) opened its Monsignor Martin schedule with a 14-5 victory at Nichols.
“We’ve had close games with them and played them in last year’s playoff final,” said Canisius coach Joe Smith. The decisive win “was really good for our guys,” Smith said.
Senior midfielder Michael Tierney, who will attend West Point, had three goals and an assist in the Canisius victory while junior attack Joe Cooley had two goals and two assists.
In a Monsignor Martin girls lacrosse opener, Katie Hart scored four goals and assisted on two others as defending league and playoff champion Mount St. Mary defeated Nardin, 15-5.
