Sam Capizzi Jr. of Rochester triumphed over Mike Firzak, 222-166, in the title match Sunday to win the Greater Buffalo Bowlers Tour stop at South Buffalo Bowling Center, formerly Recckios Lanes. Sixty-nine bowlers entered the event, the fourth stop on the local tour.
After qualifying fifth, the 35-year-old Capizzi advanced through the bracket with wins over William Swiat (255-154), Dana Voytovich (224-217), Carl Kinyon (238-189) before the showdown with Firzak.
For the second Tour stop in a row, the No. 1 qualifier fell in the opening round of match play. Steve Meyer of Rochester lost to Steve Kosut. The No. 2 qualifier, Mike Johnson of Grand Island, also was toppled in his opening match, by Kristina Szczerbinski of North Tonawanda.
