The U.S. Postal Service is moving forward with a plan to sell its Ellicott Station building on Washington Street and look to find a smaller location in the 14203 zip code.
The Postal Service on Friday announced its decision, billed as a cost-cutting measure. The station is one of two post offices downtown.
A new building would house post office boxes and retail services, like selling stamps and accepting packages for shipment. Backroom operations would be moved elsewhere, officials previously said.
In December, postal officials said they were looking at a proposal to downsize.
“After consideration of discussion and feedback, the Postal Service has announced it is moving forward on the proposal,” the Postal Service said in a written statement.
