Buffalo BPM: New column looks at electronic dance music scene

Whether you are looking for bass music or high energy big room, dance parties can be found both on the West Side and downtown Buffalo this weekend.

Snails, 8 p.m. March 31, Town Ballroom (681 Main St.).

The Montreal-based producer/DJ Snails will take the stage to a fanbase crowd that calls itself “Snail-heads.” With bass-heavy tracks as well as dubstep and trap influences, Snails has developed a sound – coined “vomitstep” (very aggressive dubstep) – that has attracted the likes of Skrillex’s label OWSLA as well as a recent signing with Circle Talent.

Dubstep DJ Spag Heddy will join the tour, and local support will come from DJs Bentz and Pizza Pizza. This show is an 18 and older show.

6BLOCC, 9 p.m. April 1, Gypsy Parlor (376 Grant St.)

6BLOCC, hailing from Los Angeles, is an old head who started his career in the ’80s mixing hip-hop. In the early ’90s he was collecting jungle and techno import records and performing under the name R.A.W.

By 2006 he became 6BLOCC and has developed his sound to highlight features of bass music, footwork and dubstep. In the studio he has worked alongside names such as Bassnectar, Diplo, Dub FX, Ranking Joe and more. Basha, Waldman & Young – a trio bred from Buffalo and Chicago – will also be performing a set of live bass music fusion along with trumpet and synth guitar.

Other DJs that will be showcased include LoPro, the Verdict, Rola!, Allday and Buffalo Joe. This show is 21 and older; admission is $10.

Kryder, 10 p.m. April 2, LiFT Nightclub (257 Franklin St.)

Veering off the bass path, hit the glowing dance floor at LiFT for some big room electro from U.K. producer and DJ Kryder. This international DJ has played everywhere from smaller clubs in the United States or for thousands in Ibiza.

Kryder has curated his high-energy sound even further with the development of his label, Sosumi. Local support will come from KITZ and Jesse Aaron. There are only a few shows left of Factory Nightlife’s series at LiFT before Skybar opens back up for the season and the rooftop fills up with sound for the summer.

This event will be 21 and older. A four pack of tickets is $20 and can be purchased on
