OLEAN – The Seneca Battalion, the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps unit at St. Bonaventure University, will celebrate the 80th anniversary of its founding and the 100th anniversary of the ROTC with a series of events on campus this weekend.
Following a cocktail party Friday night in the Jones Trustees Room in Doyle Hall, current cadets and alumni will gather Saturday in the San Damiano Room of Francis Hall for the annual spring awards ceremony at 10 a.m. and the Seneca Battalion Hall of Fame inductions at 11 a.m. The 74th annual Military Ball will be held Saturday evening in the Premier Banquet Center, 2000 Constitution Ave.
The weekend concludes Sunday with a breakfast in the Doyle Hall dining room and a traditional Mass in the University Chapel. The ROTC was created when President Woodrow Wilson signed the National Defense Act of 1916. The St. Bonaventure program was established in 1936 and its first seven officers were commissioned in 1939.
