A name for the new baby gorilla at the Buffalo Zoo, chosen by the public in online balloting, will be announced during a program of “APR-il” event activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the zoo’s gorilla exhibit.
The youngster, born earlier this year to gorilla parents Koga and Sydney, will be named either Kayin, which means “celebrated child” in the Yoruba language; K. J., for Koga Jr.; or Mossaka, nickname “Mo,” after a city in the Republic of Congo.
The program will include crafts, question-and-answer sessions, a keeper talk and birthday treats for Sydney, who was born 19 years ago in the Buffalo Zoo. The winning name will be announced at noon. Anyone bringing an unwanted cell phone for recycling will receive $1 off admission. For more information, call 995-6133 or visit buffalozoo.org.
