Low-to-moderate-income Amherst homeowners eligible for grants

Grant money is available to low- and moderate-income homeowners in targeted areas of Amherst and the Village of Williamsville to help qualified homeowners complete essential repairs to their properties.

The town received a $300,000 grant from the New York State Affordable Housing Corp. to fund the project. The home repairs must be related to structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing issues attached to the dwelling, which must be owner-occupied to be eligible for participation in the program. It also provides a $5,000 grant for the households of U.S. military veterans and partners of Team Depot, Home Depot’s associate-led volunteer force that helps veterans with cosmetic repairs to their homes.

Other eligible homeowners may qualify for interest-free loans through the town initiative. Contractors who are fully insured may contact the town’s Community Development Program at 631-7082 to be included on a contractors’ list provided to qualified homeowners, or visit the town’s website at and click on community development.
