Sometimes we need laws to halt harmful behavior
In response to the recent diatribe against County Executive Mark Poloncarz, I just want to say the things the letter writer listed – cigarette ban, microbead ban, plastic bag ban, cleaning snow off the car – are all things that people do or use that bring harm to others. People are generally selfish and/or ignorant of the consequences of bad behavior. Someone has to protect us from those behaviors.
I suppose the writer would rather live in a lawless, free-for-all society. I am glad someone is looking out for our best interest. People are, for the most part, selfish and lazy. Like a parent, the government often has to help its citizens grow up and act like adults.
