IRVING – Dancers and deejays will compete for cash prizes as the Seneca Nation hosts a dance marathon and deejay contest Friday to Sunday in the Cattaraugus Community Center, 12767 Route 438, Irving.
Couples will vie for a $2,000 grand prize in the 1950s-themed dance marathon, which will require them to keep moving at all times except during scheduled breaks. Deejays will compete for a $1,000 top prize, based on their music selection, the quality of their show and dancer participation.
Emcees will be champion dancer Serge Komar from Dance Like a Star With Serge Studio in Lewiston, and his partner, Gail Komar, a top-rated ballroom dancer and a former Mrs. New York State. There also will be local bands and Seneca social dancing.
Registration for dance contestants is $125 per couple, for deejays $100. Admission for non-contestants is $5, $10 for a three-day pass. Proceeds benefit the Buffalo Native Resource Center in downtown Buffalo. For registration and ticket information, call 845-6304 or visit sni.org.
