Bulletin Board for March 25

Buffalo Jr. Sabres teams won championships in the 18U and Bantam Major 14U divisions of the USA Hockey New York State Amateur Hockey Association tournaments last weekend at Amherst Northtown Center. “This was a tremendous weekend for the entire Buffalo Jr. Sabres organization,” said Kevyn Adams, president of the Jr. Sabres.

The 18U team went 5-0 in the tournament and won its second straight state championship, capping it with a 6-2 win over the Long Island Gulls in the championship game. The 18U team advanced to the USA Hockey 18U National Championships March 31-April 4 in San Jose, Calif.

The 18U team: Coach, Joe Marszalek; assistant coaches, Sean Wallace and Jay Maciejewski; manager Anthony Tomasula; forwards, Nicholas Alfiere, Jake Ballagh, Matthew D’Amico, Mitchell Hale, Andrew Husted, Griffin Loughran, Joseph Marszalek, Jared Murray, Matthew Novo, Scott Ramaekers, Michael Sciore and Adam Tretowicz; defense, Sean Conley, Tyler Eldridge, Anthony Hora, Christopher Perna, Matthew Stanek and Jeffrey Rymarczyk; goalies, Alex Camarre and Shawn Schneider.

The Bantam Major 14U team also went 5-0 including a 4-0 championship-game win over the Syracuse Nationals. The team will compete in the USA Hockey National Championships in Anchorage, Alaska, March 31-April 4.

The Bantam Major 14U team: Coach Jacob Brozyna; assistant coaches, Dan Toole and Ryan Zimmerman; manager, Ed Grudinski; forwards, Joshua Adimey, Leo Bax, Rocco Bonaffini, Paul Carbone, Alex Cicero, Trevor Kuntar, Dylan Lugris, Chase Nicholson, Nickolas Pavicich, Colby Seitz and Casey Severo; defense, Patrick Brady, Jacob Buerger, Jack Gilbert, Tyler Nasca, Joshua Phillips, Noah Szretter and Joseph Visconte; goalies, Connor Hasley and Robbie Nuchereno.

Ben Bluman was re-elected as president of the IAABO Board 53 of basketball officials at the organization’s annual banquet at Ilio DiPaolo’s Restaurant on March 18.

Others elected were: vice presidents, Dan Nostrant and Orv Cott; secretary, Bob Miske; treasurer, Peter Carbone; interpreter, Mark Clifford; sergeant-at-arms, Mike Nagorski; board of directors, Dan Finucane, Ken Harris, Mike O’Bryan and George Siefert.

The board presented its Sportsmanship Award to Wilson boys coach Brett Sipple. George Siefert received the Hall of Fame Award. Nagorski received the Nostrant-Schlee Award. Twenty-five Year Awards went to Willie Pulliam and Ron Schrader.

Sergeant-at-arms John Bycina received a special award for 60 years of service to Board 53.
