TOWN OF NIAGARA – Empower, the not-for-profit organization formerly known as Niagara Cerebral Palsy, announced this week that it has opened a bottle and can redemption center, called Empties for Empower, at 4701 Military Road, Town of Niagara.
The site, near the intersection of Route 31 and Military Road, is open to the public weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Customers may choose to take the full proceeds of their deposits, or donate them to Empower, which also earns a small amount on every returned container.
Soon, Empower expects to offer customers the option of setting up accounts to be reimbursed for bottles and cans that are dropped off after hours.
People with developmental or intellectual disabilities sort the bottles and cans, and handle cash returns and donations. Funding for the program is provided through the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities.
