A Tonawanda man found unconscious behind the wheel on Wednesday on the Niagara Thruway faces impaired driving and drug possession charges.
State Police responded to the Niagara Thruway near the Peace Bridge just after 11 a.m. for a vehicle stopped in a driving lane.
An Erie County sheriff’s deputy administered emergency aid to the driver, who regained consciousness and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, State Police said.
Mark J. DiMarco, 33, was medically cleared at the hospital and charged with driving while impaired by drugs, a felony, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police said they found heroin in his possession.
DiMarco was turned over to a sober third party and released on appearance tickets for Buffalo City Court on April 1.
