Rihanna returns to the First Niagara Center tonight as one of 72 stops on her"Anti" world tour. If you're going here's a rundown on what you can expect.
Rihanna is one of the most prolific “featured artist” cameo-providers in all of modern pop. She’s offered hooks and branding snippets to hits by artists like Kanye West, TI and Jay-Z, among many others. Expect these cameos to be a part of the set tonight. (This doesn’t mean that Kanye, TI or Jay-Z will be in the house, mind you.)
The No. 1’s
Rihanna is credited with 14 No. 1 singles, which places her ahead of Michael Jackson and behind Mariah Carey and the Beatles. You’re likely to hear most of them.
At times during the show, there will be up to 18 dancers joining Rhi Rhi for the choreographed bits. A veritable flash mob!
The backing tracks
Rihanna does perform with a backing band, but she also employs backing tracks. Heavily. If you’re wondering where Rihanna’s voice is coming from when her mouth is nowhere near the mic, don’t – it’s not a secret that she uses tracks to flesh things out.
She might be late
When Rihanna played First Niagara Center in March of 2013, she showed up on stage a good hour later than projected, and then played a relatively short show, which annoyed at least one person in the crowd. (Me.) In fact, if you do a Google search of “Rihanna late on stage” you will find plenty of reports of angered audiences and late arrivals. So far on this tour, so good – Rihanna has been taking the stage on time or close to it. But old habits die hard.
The Drake rumor
A rumor has been making the social media rounds that Drake will be dropping by for a bit of face time with Rihanna during tonight’s show, since he’s from Toronto and all. Drake did make an unannounced appearance at Rihanna’s March 15 show in Miami, it’s true. A repeat performance in Buffalo remains an unsubstantiated rumor, though, so don’t get your hopes up.
