The Relay for Life – the American Cancer Society’s signature event – will take place for the first time at Canalside this year.
Cancer survivors, caregivers, volunteers and others will gather Monday to kick off the relay’s fundraising season. Guests will hear how the region has benefited from funds raised, honor cancer survivors and learn how to “paint the world purple” to save lives from cancer. Teams can register for the May 20 Buffalo Relay at the kickoff event or relayforlife.org/Buffalony.
The free event – from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Rinks at HarborCenter, 100 Washington St. – includes an open skate from 7 to 8 p.m., with appearances by Sabretooth and Billy Buffalo.
Relay For Life gatherings include teams and individuals who camp out at a school, park or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Participants raise funds and awareness to help the Cancer Society save more lives from cancer.
Last year, Relay For Life events across Western New York raised more than $1 million. Learn more by visiting relayforlife.org.
