Bisons’ pitcher shines in loss

The Buffalo Bisons (1-4) got another effective spring by a starting pitcher, but lost to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 6-2, in a spring training game in Dunedin, Fla.

Left-hander Scott Diamond started for Buffalo and pitched three shutout innings. The Guelph, Ont., native struck out three and walked none in his first spring outing. Diamond won 11 games for Triple-A Durham in 2015.

Right-hander Jason Berken took the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, in two innings. Reliever Bobby Korecky pitched 1.1 innings and yielded two runs.

Outfielder Roemon Fields reached base three times, going 1-2 with a double, two walks and a run scored. Infielder K.C. Hobson drove in both Bisons runs with his sixth-inning single.

The Bisons will face the RailRiders again at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, but in Tampa.

The Bisons will hold their National Anthem auditions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Coca-Cola Field. Singers will perform as they arrived. No appointments are necessary.
