Amherst man avoids prison in Leandra’s Law case

LOCKPORT – A man who drove drunk with his three children as his passengers was sentenced to five years’ probation Thursday by State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr.

Alexander Pinilla, 35, of Travers Circle, Amherst, also must perform 100 hours of community service, pay $1,605 in fines and fees and wear an alcohol-monitoring bracelet as directed by his probation officer.

Pinilla’s blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.27 percent after he was pulled over May 23 on Lake Road in Wilson. He pleaded guilty to a felony count of aggravated driving while intoxication for violating Leandra’s Law, which adds extra penalties for drunken drivers with children in their vehicles.
