Recently, there have been some very big nights when it comes to boys basketball. And there are still possibly a few more to come at this weekend's state Federation tournament.
But we'd like to think the biggest night of the Western New York boys basketball year is now exactly a month away.
The fifth Buffalo News/BCANY Awards banquet will be held Monday, April 18 at Ilio DiPaolo’s Restaurant in Blasdell.
The event will again be supported by The Buffalo News, the Basketball Coaches Association of New York, ADPRO Sports, UNYTS and high school sports advocate Dick Gallagher. For those interested in sponsorships or program advertisements, email email@example.com.
The invitation-only event, a cooperative effort by The News, members of the BCANY and News pollster/blogger Chad "Centercourt" Andrews, honors the very best in the 2015-16 high school boys basketball season.
Contributors, coaches and players will be honored with various awards.
"Centercourt" will honor his Coach of the Year, one of many honors that lead up to the honoring of the 2016 All-Western New York team and this year's Allen Wilson Player of the Year. Our Player of the Year Award was renamed in honor of News reporter Wilson, who was a former high school reporter and longtime supporter of high school basketball, after he died of leukemia in 2011.
There will also be some surprises. See you next month.
