If you're a "Star Wars" fan who likes to dress up for the movies - in costume that is - then head to the North Park Theatre this weekend.
The North Park (1428 Hertel Ave.) is showing "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" from March 18 through 24 and is hosting a costume contest at two of the screenings.
Dress up as your favorite "Star Wars" character - classic or modern - for the shows at 7 p.m. March 18 or 19. Two winners - for best costume and most creative - will be awarded each night.
On March 21, the winner for best overall costume will receive a grand prize of a Sphero BB-8 in the contest sponsored by Lloyd Taco Truck.
The North Ridge fan group will be in costume at the theater on March 18 and you can check out the replica TIE fighter in the lobby, loaned by Steve Young who lives in the Parkside neighborhood. "Star Wars"-inspired work by local artists will be for sale in the lobby.
Since its Dec. 18 debut, "The Force Awakens" has crossed the $1 billion mark in ticket sales. Buffalo News critic Colin Dabkowski called the movie "a beautifully photographed, 136-minute apology for the 16-year detour 'Star Wars' devotees were duty-bound to take through Lucas’ late-career misadventures."
