Allegany inmate arrested for sneaking drugs into jail

BELMONT – A 24-year-old Wellsville man already jailed at the Allegany County Jail was arrested Thursday for allegedly sneaking heroin into the facility after his arrest on unrelated charges.

Jeremiah D. Edwards, of Riverside Drive, was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and first-degree promoting prison contraband. Sheriff Ricky L. Whitney said Edwards had six bags of heroin in one of his socks when he was taken to the county jail Thursday on unrelated charges. After being charged without incident at the county jail he was taken to Amity Town Court and slapped with additional bail. On the prison contraband case he has further proceedings March 30 in Amity Town Court, according to the sheriff.
