Pharmacies, not government, should decide what they sell

The News editorial board should rethink its position on the proposal to ban cigarettes from pharmacies in Erie County.

While I personally agree that smoking is a health hazard and seems out of place in a wellness facility, I don’t agree that any government body has the right to make that decision for us or any private business. After all, other products sold in pharmacies, such as cookies, candy, beer, etc., aren’t considered healthy products either. Where does it stop? Shouldn’t we ban them all?

Please stop letting the government chip away our freedoms. Insist that our leaders treat us with respect and let us make our own personal choices.

Please don’t be so eager to relinquish our freedoms to the “nanny state.”
