A dog died and another was saved after they fell through ice on a pond in Clarence on Tuesday morning.
State Police’s Underwater Recovery Team responded to a pond on Shimerville Road at about 7:45 a.m.
Trooper Troy Bullard entered the water in a dry suit, broke an area of ice and returned one of the dogs to shore.
The second dog was found underneath a layer of ice, was returned to shore but it had died, State Police said.
Clarence Animal Control and Harris Hill Volunteer Fire Co. also responded to the scene.
