Reports: Man in custody after shooting at Genesee County deputy

BYRON – A man is in custody after he was accused of shooting at a Genesee County sheriff’s deputy during a traffic stop, reported Rochester television station WHAM.

Deputy Andrew Hale was writing a traffic ticket when shots were fired at his patrol car from a hotel across the street, Sheriff Gary Maha told WHAM. The sniper fired a .22 rifle, getting off at least two rounds, reported Time Warner Cable News.

The incident happened in the parking lot of the Arrow Mart gas station around noon, reported TWC. Maha says the deputy was not hit. Preliminary reports indicate no one was injured.

Arrow Mart is located near Rt. 262 at Byron Holley Road.

The suspect was shooting from a second-story room, WHAM said.

A press conference is planned for 4 p.m. by Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.
