Seven people, including three children, were injured Saturday night when a drunk driver rear-ended a minivan at Five Corners intersection of Southwestern Boulevard, Orchard park police reported.
This is how police described the collison:
Officers were responding to a Lake Avenue address for a report of a domestic incident about 9:30 p.m. While police were traveling to the address, they received a report that one of the participants left at a high rate of speed in a Nissan Rogue eastbound on Lake Avenue. When the vehicle reached the intersection of Southwestern Blvd, it crashed into the rear of a Chrysler minivan that was stopped at a red light.
The minivan was occupied by one adult male, two adult females and three children ages 3, 6 and 9. All suffered varying degrees of non-life threatening injuries. All the occupants of the minivan were transported to a local hospital.
The driver of the Nissan Rogue, Lori Mammana, 46, of Amherst also suffered unknown injuries and was transported to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.
Mammana displayed obvious signs of intoxication, police said, and she was charged with driving while intoxicated.
Mammana submitted to a blood test to determine the alcohol and/or drug content of her blood. The blood was submitted to the lab for analysis.
The investigation into the domestic incident and the car crash are ongoing and more charges are expected to be filed. Both vehicles suffered extensive damage and air bags in both vehicles did deploy.
