Three people have been charged with arson in connection with a fire late Monday night in a vacant former church rectory on Watson Street.
Joe Sieg, 21, of Abbott Road; Cory Teti, 19, of Center Road, West Seneca; and Tyler Lambert, 22, of Creekside Drive, Cheektowaga have been charged with third-degree arson, criminal mischief and trespass. They were arrested about a half-hour after firemen were called to the scene at 11:30 p.m.
The two-alarm fire caused $100,000 in damage to the three-story structure at 73 Watson, the former rectory of Sacred Heart Church north of Clinton Street.
“It was a great effort by Ferry-Fillmore District and South District police officers in the apprehension of the three suspects,” South District Chief Thomas J. Moran. He said fire marshals also played a role in the investigation and added that a citizen had provided crucial information to officers who were first on the scene.
Officers Sean Zoll, Sara Keaton, Patrick McDonald and Jon Weber were credited with catching the suspects.
No injuries were reported.
