Group home would be ideal for Bryant Street complex
The timely, thought-provoking letter published in this section on Feb. 18, “Convert hospital complex into a large group home,” should provoke action on every level, from John Q. Citizen to the Empire State governor.
Those of us with children or other relatives/friends in need of group home services are well aware that New York State has systematically slashed living arrangements for the mentally challenged and disabled over the past several years.
The soon-to-be-vacated complex on Bryant Street offers a wonderful solution to the long waiting lists for those who need supervised living. This complex may provide an economically feasible and wellness-oriented answer for these unfortunate people.
I implore all readers to contact all resources and government sources to plead for the establishment of supervised living at this facility.
